54 Day Rosary Novena

This year we are being encouraged to pray the 54 day Novena for our nation beginning on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption, and concluding on 7 October, the Feast of the Holy Rosary.  Traditionally, a novena is nine days.  In this instance, the devotion is to pray three Rosary novenas followed by three novenas of thanksgiving.  There are different ways to pray this devotion, and one can use the modern rosary prayers, which would include the luminous mysteries, or the traditional method can be used.  I would like to take this opportunity to share the Dominican method of praying the Rosary.

The Dominicans typically begin the Rosary much like they begin the prayers of the Divine Office:

Let us pray.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

V.  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
R.  Blessed art thou amongst women and
blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

V.  Lord, open my lips.
R.  And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

V.  God, come to my assistance
R.  Lord make haste to help me.

V.  Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
R.  As it was in the beginning, i snow, and will be forever.  Amen.

After this, begin the mysteries of the day.  Begin each decade by announcing the mystery.  Reflect on it.  If time permits, follow the announcement of the mystery with the relevant scripture passage for that reading.  After reflection, begin the prayers, reciting one Our Father on the large bead, and a Hail Mary on each of the ten small beads.  At the end of the decade, pray the Glory Be.  Conclude the decade with a more general prayer, like the Fatima Prayer:

O, my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.

Conclude the Rosary with the Hail Holy Queen:

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To thee do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

V.  Pray for us, Holy Mother of God.
R.  That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.  Oh God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech thee, that by meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord.  Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Holy is His Name

Here is another favorite video that I had previously shared, Holy is His Name by John Michael Talbot.

Starting Over

I thought I would resurrect this blog and start it over with a very well done version of O Sanctissima, a long-time favorite song of mine.
